So that night while everyone was gone, Caleb made his way down the several feet to Olivia's nest. By this time all the baby possum were tired of exploring and had returned to the pouch, so Caleb tried to wiggle his way into the pouch also. When Olivia felt the commotion, she looked back and was startled to see Caleb, who had big tears in his eyes, because for once in his life he was too big and so he couldn't be a possum either.

Olivia picked up little Caleb and kissed him on both eyes, which is a baby raccoon's favorite place to be kissed, and told him wonderful raccoon stories about little raccoons just like him that grew up to be big and strong, and, that if he would just be patient, she was sure that something special would happen to make him grow. Olivia told Caleb he was welcome to visit whenever he was lonely and she gave him a persimmon and a glass of possum milk (which he didn't like) and sent him back home so Rachel wouldn't worry if she got back and he was gone.
